Anglican bishop collapses in Kajo-Keji, flown to Juba for treatment

The Bishop of the Episcopal Church Diocese of Kajo-Keji, Emmanuel Murye Modi, is critically ill, a prominent Anglican Church leader said on Monday.

“I visited Kajo-Keji today to attend a reconciliation meeting in Kajo-Keji, and Bishop Emmanuel was the one who received me at the airstrip this morning. After we arrived home, he just collapsed after a suspected stroke,” Paul Yugusuk, the Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of Central Equatoria Internal Province, told Radio Tamazuj.

According to Archbishop Yugusuk, Bishop Emmanuel was complaining of severe pains in his head and his heart.

Archbishop Yugusuk pointed out that the Anglican bishop had been flown to the capital Juba for further treatment. “We have arrived in Juba, and the bishop is receiving treatment at Promise Hospital. The bishop is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU),” he said.

Bishop Emmanuel Murye has been leading the Kajo-Kaji diocese in Central Equatoria State since 2018.

Kajo-Keji County has been affected by the conflict since 2016.
