6:12 Scotland will Seek to Keep Access to EU Market Despite Brexit
20 de diciembre de 2016, 18:12London, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The Scottish government announced today its plan to keep economic relations with the European Union (UE) and especially the access to the community market after making effective the separation of the United Kingdom from the bloc, known as Brexit.
The official recalled that although the British approved the Brexit in the referendum on June 23, the ‘yes’ option was beaten in Scotland, because the loss of benefits after the separation from the regional authority ‘would seriously damage the region’s economic, social and cultural interests,’ she asserted.
Sturgeon presented a document entitled ‘Scotland’s Place in Europe,’ which includes proposals to her government that demand differentiated treatment for that territory, based on rules that are applied in the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Economic Area (EEA) for several EU non-member countries.
Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland belong to the EFTA and the latter country is also included in the EEA, which establishes free movement of goods and people.
